Albania w ogniu! Zamieszki w Tiranie, kłótnia o plażę Kuśniera, Rama nie ustępuje

Albania przeżywa piąty dzień masowych protestów na ulicach stolicy. Studenci buntują się przeciwko korupcji i drożyźnie, a do zamieszek włączy się cała społeczność. Все pod grą o luksusowy kurort powiązany z zięciem Donalda Trumpa.

Świat Albania w ogniu! Zamieszki w Tiranie, kłótnia o plażę Kuśniera, Rama nie ustępuje

Trzeci dzień gorącej Tiany. Zamieszki, woda i łzy od gazu

Student-led demonstrators clashed Thursday with Albanian police in the capital Tirana for a third day running, joining a broader anti-government movement launched in opposition to a major development project linked to U.S. President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Zamieszki na ulicach albańskiej stolicy przybierają coraz większe rozmiary. Thousands of student-led protesters smashed windows and fought running battles with riot police firing water cannon and tear gas.

The streets of Tirana are littered with burnt-out trash bins; bus stop glass has been smashed, and traffic lights have been torn down. Police used tear gas, stun grenades, and water cannons against protesters who threw stones, set fire to a kiosk, and broke into a bank. Na tym jednak nie koniec, bowiem thousands of mostly young Albanians once again took to the streets of Tirana October 16. According to Reuters this is the fifth consecutive day of protests against the government of Edi Rama.

Co chce się od premiera? Rezygnacja, nie negocjacje

Główny cel protestujących jest prosty i wyraźny: high school students joined thousands of protesters on marches through the center of the capital, chanting "Rama Resign!" as they brought the city to a standstill. Żądania demonstrantów dotyczą jednak nie tylko osoby premiera. Protesters voiced anger about perceived corruption, the cost and quality of education and a deal to sell off parts of its pristine southern coastline to a luxury resort development backed by U.S. President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.

Edi Rama jednak twardą szynie. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama on Thursday rejected calls to resign as thousands of student-led protesters voiced anger about perceived corruption. W oświadczeniu dla mediów premier argumentuje, że "My responsibility is to listen, address legitimate concerns and keep Albania moving forward. The alternative would be a betrayal of the Albanians who gave me a strong mandate to complete negotiations on European Union membership," he said.

Plaża Kuśniera, czyli jak zrodziła się burza

Wszystko zaczęło się od projektu deweloperskiego, który dla wielu albańskich obywateli to symbol korupcji i braku przejrzystości. That outrage had already prompted waves of protests throughout the summer, on that occasion targeting just one resort project: the redevelopment of Sazan Island, a former Soviet military site that a firm associated with Ivanka Trump and husband Jared Kushner has taken on as an environmental cleanup project.

Sprawa jest drażliwa. The protests follow months of mostly peaceful demonstrations sparked by the plans to build the resort, which has faced legal challenges. Villagers told Reuters in July that their land was wrongfully sold for development. Reuters later reported that the man who sold the land was wanted by prosecutors for drug trafficking, charges his lawyer denied. Reuters found no evidence of wrongdoing by Kushner, who is not directly involved in the villagers' dispute.

Od nauki do rewolucji flamingow

Początkowo protesty skupiały się na postulach edukacyjnych. The protests were led by student groups seeking education reforms. They have joined the so-called flamingo movement, which is calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama over allegations of widespread corruption and in opposition to the large luxury tourism development on Albania's southern coast, associated with an investment firm founded by Kushner.

Nazwa ruchu ma ciekawą historię: The movement earned the name after protesters used signs depicting the pink birds, which live in their thousands in a nature reserve on the island where the development is planned. To, co zaczęło się jako studentacki marsz za reformami edukacji, przerodziło się w szerszą kampanię społeczną. There are clashes with police in Tirana, demonstrations are spreading to other cities, and participants are increasingly demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama. The protests spread beyond Tirana to including Shkoder, Elbasan, Lezha and Korça.

Rząd stoi murem, Europa patrzy z niepokojem

Obserwatorzy unijni z niepokojem śledzi rozwój sytuacji. A European Union delegation in Albania called late Wednesday for a proportionate response from authorities, expressing concern at "the violent escalation at the protest in Tirana."

Dla Albanii jest to moment krytyczny. Kraj aspiruje do członkostwa w Unii Europejskiej, ale organised crime and corruption remain key obstacles to Albania's ambition of joining the European Union.
